Driver door central locking / seat memory buttons dead

Had this for a while and have just put up with it. But now selling and what to sort out. I have tried replacing the entire door handle and buttons unit but no change. Changed fuse 40 just in case but didn't think that would be the cause as mirrors and window buttons working fine.

Guessing this is a loom issue? Not sure how to test this. Is it a straight forward job to replace that whole loom?

Thanks

G

Ok.

I've had a look at a 2011 wiring circuit.

Mem buttons seam to go straight to seat switches (not memory module) via 2 wires (and ground at switch)
Black wires in door, then inside the car yellow pin 4 (memory status light) and grey with purple stripe pin 11 (switches)

Check pin 5 at the switch is a good ground.

Depending which button is pressed you will get a different resistance between pins 5 and 6
or a different voltage on pin 6 grey/purple wire if connected to the car.

So check switch has a ground pin5.
Then remove drivers switch pack and either monitor voltage on the grey/purple when mem buttons pressed for a change
or disconnect both ends and buzz out the wires for continuity

EDIT Ok.

So as lock buttons don't work I would suspect the earth to switches.

Hi Pete,

I have the door panel off now but think I got the wrong end of the stick on what to check.

There is a green plug that goes into the door switch pack which has 6 wires and also a grey one underneath with 2 wires (connect to door card then off to other stuff, lights maybe). They both have all black wires as you said.

Is it this green plug I need to check pin 4, 5 and 6? Or is this under the seat? If so, which plug?

Thanks again

Geoff

I think it’s in the door.
I’ll have a look tomorrow

remove/disconnect the green plug.

Look very closly at it with a torch or glasses. Mounded into it should be pin numbers 1 to 7
or at least number 1 at one end.

Locate pin 5. This should be ground.
If you are sure you have found pin 5, Try running a new temporary wire to pin 5 by stuffing it into the metal.

Connect other other end to the door hinge area or the outside 0 part of a cigar lighter socket.
See if the buttons then work. If it works, that is the issue. No ground at that wire.

For anyone else, this is what the pin numbers do:

1 Lock
2 Unlock
3 Illumination + Battery feed
4 Illumination -
5 Ground (for lock and memory)
6 Seat memory buttons (resistor ladder)
7 memory program status LED +

If grounding pin 5 fixes it, you have 2 options I guess.
1. Replace door loom at great expense and hassle
2. Use a red scotch lock to tap in the pin 5 wire, and connect to the nearest part of metal on the door.

Nice! They are indeed numbered 1 to 7. Will try this out now and report back.

Pete! Thank you! That was it! The buttons didn't light up so thought it was still dead but noticed the passenger side wasn't lit up (so probably down to the door card being removed and missing some other connections). So tried the buttons anyway and sure enough it worked!!

Question is now, what should I do about it. Can I just find a ground point behind the door card and keep that wire in place? Or do I need to run another cable down through the door into the car? Not sure where the original ground point is.

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed your suggestions on the bottom of your post. Thanks so much.

Thanks again Pete for the help! Can't believe I've done without for 2 years and in the end it was a relatively simple fix. Picked up those splicing clips from Halfords and earthed to one of the bolts in the door. Trim all back in and can confirm all working including seat, mirrors and steering wheel memory.

Sods law (maybe should be LR law), I then realised when checking the central locking that the offside passenger door isn't locking/unlocking with the fob. Only just swapped out the nearside actuator yesterday Big Cry
