Drag link or Steering arm problem |
|
Evening everybody.
It's MOT time for me and last year I had an Advisory Notice that the`Nearside Drag Link end ball joint has slight play`. On the MOT Inspection check list the technician wrote `play in n/s & o/s steering arms`.
I have three questions:
1. Is the Drag Link and Steering the arm the same?
2. Is it easy to fix?
3. Is it connected to the infamous "balll joint problems" ?
I did get under the car and couldn't find any play in the steering bushes but I did notice that the front n/s drive shaft did move. Is that normal?

Yes, i would say the description is the same.
The description in you post leads me to beleive the inner steering rack joints "lolly pops" are worn
2. Is it easy to fix?
Mmm, not dificult if you know what to do, you need to disconnect the steering rack from the outter hubs and remove the steering gaiters
3. Is it connected to the infamous "balll joint problems" ?

Cheers TLO
That makes sense to me. It was strange that I couldn't find any movement though. Perhaps not poking around it hard enough!
