Double the price of other insurers |
|
Just had a quote from A-Plan for the renewal on my car insurance, bear in mind I've changed vehicle and now have a Volvo XC70 rather than a D4 (so a lot less likely to be stolen and cheaper parts ), of the same year as my D4 but half the value in the current market (nothing else has changed).
The price I had from GoCompare was around the £300 mark, some less than that but I'd never heard of the companies so will avoid, the price from A-Plan was just shy of £600.... double the lowest quote I'd received !
Be warned ! I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I would double check with A Plan that you were given the correct quotation.
Other brokers quoted me just over £1k for adding a Mercedes Benz SL350 to my 3 car policy. When I queried it they confirmed an error, and reduced the quote by 90% to c. £100.
We all make mistakes

To be fair, no company is the cheapest for all circumstances, but you do also need to look behind the headlines of the comparison websites, sometimes their excesses are very significantly more than others, or the extras can mount up to a significant amount.
As with any insurance company, check the cover and prices match what you are happy with. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I'm sad to say I left A-Plan after a few years of good service. I tried to insure my DS P300e with them ...the lowest quote they could find was with LV at £880 with £400 excess plus a £500 vol excess.
I was shocked.... the chap said it was because PHEVs \ EVs cost more to repair. I decided to use the Meerkat and was astounded to have a quote back from LV for £440 with £0 vol excess.
Can't understand why a broker couldn't find similar. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

It will be interesting to hear what A Plan have to say about Nigelthecat & DG's experience.

I have used A Plan in the past and always had a high level of service. Unfortunately in recent years they have not been able to find any companies who can complete with NFU Mutual on price.
There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration though. As always, as boring as it, you need to shop around. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I actually put in the levels of excess etc at the start and have eliminated any company that leaves out things like hire car or uninsured losses so will hopefully have got a good comparison... also one company appeared several times with the lowest quotes but had terrible reviews so left them out.
What I was left with were known companies that offered a similar level of cover all in the region of £300-£350.... and then A-Plan who were just under £600...
Just got a quote from NFU (given where I live) and they were around £500 so again much cheaper than A-Plan... but not the cheapest... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!
