Having some trouble with my front passenger side door lock not locking or unlocking. It was just occasionally just not unlocking but this evening it wouldn't lock so had manually lock the passenger door so I could lock the whole vehicle. Would it be the actuator that has failed?
Are they difficult to change?

I'd start by liberally doing/flushing with WD40 or similar.

Fiddly and scraps your knuckles.
Done three now and about one and a half hours is how long it takes to change and get it back together.
Patience and not too fat fingers helps!

I have not been buying genuine, just generic items from Ebay.
They have been working okay so the three originals I have changed seems fine.
Not sure what a genuine one costs?

I've replaced the drivers door latch twice, the first replacement started playing up after about a year and I recall it was quite cheap from eBay. I've bought all subsequent ones from Advanced Factors and they've been fine, just a bit more than £100 each if I recall correctly. Likely to be s pain if one fails and the door can't be opened, so I'd rather pay to get the genuine article

Strangely the lock is working fine today maybe just some damp had got in. Fingers crossed it will be ok.

Not working at all so it looks like I am going to have to bite the bullet and take it all apart. Is it worth buying the genuine part as non genuine are only £35 each?

Are there no alternative ford parts? There is a Fiesta actuator that fits the tailgate, so may well be something out there. Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi,
I have not done a D3 but have a FL2 passenger side front and as said a few scraped knuckles
I went for a s/h part, I know you can be buying a part that will have the same issue not far away but then again it can last many years
Mine has been fine for the last year and its very random which one fails
New units from the far east are £18 yet there are some ???? about how good they are so I would stick to genuine and I would go s/h.
My o/s/r on the FL2 is just starting to take 2 remote presses to unlock fully and have just ordered a s/h part for £15
Another option is to take the actuator apart and replace the motor there are a number of threads about this, trying to remember who has done it a few times as the little motors are about £5
when I looked inside the n/s/f one I had replaced there was many moving parts
sure its easy once you have done it and with hindsight I should have practiced on it
(but it was a year ago so good chance I would have forgot what I did anyway )
Its not a hard job just fiddly and takes patience, try a bit of Yoga and Zen breathing before hand

A word of advice. If you know your door lock motors are failing. Do not double lock the car.! If it goes you will not get it open.

Thanks for all the advice, I am still resisting doing anything with it at the moment as believe it or not it's started to work again. I am sure this is a temporary thing though and will have to take it apart at some stage.

It takes me longer than that to find my tool It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
