Do-it-all-D3

I'm hoping this Discovery turns out to be something of a keeper so I felt it was a good idea to join in with the Disco-diaries in here..

Bit of background

I work in the motor trade at a car supermarket, so I do have the advantage of access to workshop space and ramps,

My wife and I live together with our extended family so tip runs and trips needs more than 5 seats are commonplace.

The need for a second car that can move people, rubbish and everything a family the size of ours needs, something not to be overly precious about, but still be presentable is a tough wish list, but a D3 seems to tick all the boxes, if it wasn't for the tax, the fuel, the rust....

But they are all easy to overlook with some wishful thinking..

Anyway, my Discovery.

A 2007 gs.

Bought from a work colleague who was upgrading to a D4,

Basic spec but everything it does have, works!

Tasks since buying - dull bits

Brake servo and vac pump
Replacement front discs and pads
Detent circlip (this 20 minute/£10ish repair was an improvement you would not belive)

And some more interesting bits

Darkened/de-tangoed head lights (kept a D4 style orange strip)
D4 style grill
D4 rear lights (with resisters)
Colour coded exterior trims
Wheel refurb/colour change

While I have grown up from previous days of constant projects and go-faster toys, I do still enjoy a tinker so I will try to keep an updated record of keeping this 160k mile do everything, practical toy.

Looks great and should serve you well.
Given the year of manufacture it would be a good idea to check that the original oil pump has been replaced. If it hasn't then it should be as soon as possible. Full details of the reasons for this on this site, search oil pump failure and similar.

Fortunately the previous owner was a receipt keeper, timing belts, oil pump and EHB all recently addressed. Cool

Today....

Had it mapped!?!

I had a local mapper come to see me today to look at a troublesome X5,
With him, the Discovery, and time on our hands it seemed rude not to make the most of the situation,

So an hour later, EGRs are shut and a tweaked map installed, my only drive since is in back to back traffic, so I can't really comment on the change, but I'm hoping for a inice mprovement in "driveability"
If feel it picks up nicer and it a bit more responsive I'll be happy.

Plus I know I've no EGR issues on the horizon.
