, they were actually made in two sizes, ours is 33" in depth rather that the 38" as started on the new models.
the original B24 fits a Disco 2 (my brother has one in his) - would have been much easier if they had changed the model number

Don't forget if you've got a D3 with the older latch mechanism to change it to then newer one before using a dog cage. Not being able to open the tailgate with a dog in the cage (unless it has the forward escape hatch) does not bear thinking about. You'll have to dismantle the cage from the inside around the poor dog(s). Deffo change/check the latch.
However the B24 doesn't have a rear door as an option. Presume you would be able to lay the 2nd row seats flat and then turn the box round and then open. However not something that could be done quickly in an emergency
Is the D4 latch a different design ?D4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

The D4 latch is the uprated design and whilst I have not heard of one failing yet it is not exactly built from girders...
There is no need to worry about a rear door on the single cages as they are easy enough to move around in seconds if the door fails. However, I consider an escape exit essential for the double size cages. Even if your door latch is ok it only takes a power failure or a relatively minor shunt from the rear on a hot day to ruin everything. Should you have a serious rack or a full height cage next to a single box then that would be just as bad as a double size crate.

Went for a TravalAll cargo divider in the end. Only down side is that the new dog (puppy) is small enough to be able to get round the back of the divider at the middle seat where it is slightly further forward. I'm reliably informed that a lab will not stay small for long so won't have to do much about this slight issue other than stuff an old towl in the gap.Dr Rick
