| DIY Tracker / Webasto GSM starter |

I've had one of these in my freelander for a couple of years(price has come down a lot since i bought one, i paid 400), reading the thread on starting the webasto via GSM propted me to dig out the instruction manual as i remebered it had a digital out connection.
Low an behold it does, so I'm going to check out how this can switch on the FBH via the webasto remote same as in the other thread.
The tracker has no monthly rental to pay, I just put a pay-as-you-go SIM inside it, you can download from the web and see where the vehicle is or dial direct into the unit to receive real time telemetry. The main reason I got this particular unit was you could program a 'geofence' an area on the map basically, if the vehicle goes outside this area you get a text. It also takes input from the alarm and sends text on alarm activation etc.
2 birds with 1 stone, a vehicle tracker and webasto remote.

pom - is it a vtu009? It looks like one but the website you linked doesn't have a product code on it.
If it is the vtu009 then the instructions above don't mention a switched output (i.e. a relay). I think the digital output it refers to is the usb interface 
If I've got this wrong then tell me - because if it could control the fbh then I think I'd quite like one of these too.

In the text on the page the link takes you to it says VTU008 "Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag'em down to your level. It's cheaper".

well i think mine is vtu0008 as its quite old, i'm going to find the instructions tomorrow but im pretty sure they said when i bought it you could send a signal to an immobiliser, i'll double check.

manual online here suggests you might be able to control the fbh with it

I think you'll need another relay though, as what the vtu008 provides is just a 12v/0.5a output.
And the manual above doesn't say if you can send an sms to activate the output, or how it operates.

yes thats it.attach a simple relay would work.
I have the email address for the software engineers so will drop them a line tomorrow.

Good News!
Yes the output can be pulsed on and off by either a text or by calling it. It also has the added security of only accepting calls from telephones numbers you set.
I have asked them if they would offer a discount for members of the forum should any be interested. Update: No discount due to the weak pound lol
Now to retrofit mine from the Freelander to the Disco.

Ok stripped the unit out of the freelander have ordered a 12v relay from maplin.
The track and locate software can be run on a smartphone, handy for seing where the mrs is really going

There is no monthly rental once you buy the tracker its yours.
YOU have to supply a SIM card, it doesn't need credit as it never makes calls (apart from alarms) but it does upload via GPRS the tracking data from the unit. Depending on sensitivity you choose is how much uploading it does. You don't have to use this, you can just do a locate which calls the phone directly from the software.
I use a pay as you go SIM and the credit never runs out just the bloody Mobile operators kill the sim if it hasnt made any calls/texts in 90 days. So I put a tenner on it every 3 months.
