Discovery 5...

Hoping for some feedback.

Looking to jump over from my D4HSE into a D5 and was wondering what experiences are like with the Satnav in the D5? Is it worth keeping my new Garmin as a backup? Any first hand experiences would be welcome. Thanks.

It’s ok in my MY18, but not brilliant, but I have never found any of LR’s sat nav to be great.

It gets me to where I want to be most of the time 😉

I find it does exactly what it needs to. I particularly like being able to plan a journey on my PC or phone then send it to the car ready to go. The live traffic data seems to update very frequently.

If in doubt, why not just keep your Garmin until you've tried out the D5?

I use google maps via apple CarPlay and haven’t ever tried the inbuilt Sat Nav. Onboard navigation seems to be a bit dated these days IMO.

If you can get hold of one with Pivi-Pro then the satnav experience is light years ahead of any previous LR sat nav incarnations Thumbs Up

Thanks for the feedback. Think I'll stick with my instincts and take my Garmin out of the D4 before I give it away.

Even better if it has a digital dash, switch it to full map and everything is right in front of you.

I've recently sold my '19 HSE Lux D5, having spent 13months and 11k miles in it and returned to a '16 D4. The D5 is a great car, but it's more of a Range Rover than a Disco. I sold my D5 back to the supplying dealer for 10% more than I paid last year. My car gets used offroad for shooting/stalking, so I felt it was too nice for that.

I had several extended trips to Ireland and Cornwall in the D5, and it was very comfortable, more economical than the D4 (33-34mpg). Downsides? Felt much larger than the D4, the smaller boot, mine came with oversized 22'' wheels which were unnecessary, and there was an intermittent fault with the lower boot flap.

I never used the satnav, always relying on Waze.

I found the past years ine, but then I’ve never really had a problem with lr satnavs each year getting better.

Pri-pro on the 5 and defender does annoy me, I would go back in a heartbeat
