the better headlights are worth it. the standard in the XS are useless. worth paying the extra for the upgrade, which I didn't do  Duncan

Lighting again seems somewhat subjective. My D3 came with adaptive xenon lights and cornering lamps, but at the time is was an extra that I would not have been prepared to pay for had it not already been on the car. The standard fitment lamps on the D4 XS are halogens with no cornering lamps and I heard good reports of these lamps so was surprised when I personally found them somewhat inadequate. The standard fitment on the HSE is now non-adaptive xenons without cornering lights, but when I decided to switch back to a D4 hse from the XS (largely for the seat comfort), I specifically looked for one with the optional adaptive xenons and cornering lamps. Clearly depends a bit on where you drive and how you see things, but for me extra light as I turn to come into a narrow gateway at home is quite useful and when on the winding country lanes the extra light I find to be helpful. However, I am sure there are many with halogen lamps who are quite happy and you could always add some additional driving lamps if you felt the need.
