discovery 4 oil levels
dont know if its just me but checking oil levels on a discovery 4 is a joke is it possible to fit a dipstick so you can see how much oil is needed rather than keep putting ignition on after 10 or 15 minutes and waiting for message ( level not available )them got two different readings not one of landrovers better ideas.

Same here, works fine for me, I I do find it takes longer than the 15 minutes or whatever it says in the manual - I usually wait around 20 minutes or do it when returning to the car after walking the dogs.

At least you have the option. In the states, the Service menu is ghosted from our D4's!
What you don't see the service menu at all? I know it's ghosted out when the engine is running here in the UK, but surely not allowing the user to check the oil level opens LR up to litigation in the event of engine failure due to low/no oil - that just seems weird, especially in the world's litigation capital

Can't find the service menu on my D4? what is the process for finding it? I'll have a look again in the morning.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

To find the service menu press the OK button on the right of the steering wheel then use the down part of the button to scroll down to the service menu.

As far as I can remember without going out to the car it is accessible as long as the ignition is on, so ignition only on or car started. Cheers Ian

Fridge blindness. right in front of me. Mine says overfilled (cold) so I'll check when warm. Just collected so back to stealer I think.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Reliability of calibration of the oil gauge is variable. During a 14000km trip I only added a litre in dribs and drabs over that distance but always in response to the gauge showing one bar down while also showing "ok" for the level. Additions were from 250ml to 400ml.

If I leave mine long enough it would show overfilled but is normally OK.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Mine consistently shows as "level unavailable" when I bring up the view from the menu. Anyone else have this happen? Does it only read the oil level when cold?
