Discovery 4 or L322 Vogue

Thought I’d pick all your brains here and see what some of you think. I sold my D4 last year and have regretted it ever since so looking at owning one again but the values have climbed a bit since then. To put into context I have a works vehicle an NP300 Navara and it’s my third one with all of them just confirming pick-ups are useless especially privately so this will be a hobby motor so to speak but will still tow up to 3.5tons but rarely, shooting, dogs and holidays but is only me and my partner and that won’t change. So this is all to give you concept.

Ive got the option of a 2012 D4 commercial but full spec leather heated seats, remote heater, xenon headlights, tow bar etc. it’s is immaculate it has been a working car towed regularly but by caring owner as only one owner with full history dealer till 5 years then Indy after and has been faultless for him. Don’t need rear seats and without rear air con don’t have to pipe corrosion issues.

Then the other is a 61 plate Vogue 4.4TDV8 with the 8 speed same mileage on both are just over 100k (will only do 5k a year with me the other 35k are painful enough in a pick up) it is tidy and well looked after never worked and had chunk of work done in last 18months suspension wear etc. it’s the same price as D4 really but a hell of a lot of car and the TDV8 has a better reputation for reliability aka no crank issues but is there more else where with issues. Also the thought of 300+ hp with a V8 is a mmm thought Laughing

Any helpful advice and thoughts appreciated

I regretted buying my vogue se. Couldn’t wait to get back to a disco. The only thing I miss is the ac seats.

Steve.

i have run both over a long term period, the RR is by far the better vehicle, comfort, reliability and cost to maintain, with no real underlying issues, oil cooler replacement and some other preventative maintenance, makes them a good long term prospect with out the challenge that the 3ltr engine brings to ownership.
The discovery does have the benefit though of offering a full length flat floor when you fold the seats down, so if thats a requirement the Disco will win on that point likely alone. RR is a great tow car.

There very different driving experiences and the RR has more toys, but both are good in there own right and if they had made a better engine for the Disco the potential cost risk owning one would be removed form the decision making.

if you can drive them both and see which suits you better.
