IIRC there is a bead of sealant that used to be added to the rear windows on commercials. I believe accurate use of a fine blade resolves this issue. I may well be wrong though - I am sure someone with far more knowledge will be along presently. My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

Atlantech 01327342484 are doing mine and was very knowledgeable on the phone having done the conversion on quite a few D4 of various ages.
Might be worth a cheeky phone call?

As the so called site moderator, what is your problem? I ask a simple question and you suggest that you hope that the taxman should be involved. If you can't make a worthwhile contribution then butt out! Making the windows work on the these Commercials is a common request on this site and does not change the commercial nature of these vehicles, the tax status of a vehicle or me personally has nothing to do with DG or this site.
I've noticed less than helpful comments from this person before, regarding Commercials. I for one will no longer be using this site.

Just because someone helps out by moderating does not mean they are no longer entitled to an opinion.
In this case it is clearly (from the emoticons) a tongue-in-cheek comment regarding the potentially iffy tax status of un-commercialised commercial vehicles.
You have received many helpful replies so to allow a light hearted comment to cause you to stop using the site despite that seems a little OTT. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Thanks.
I wasn't specifically refering to you tbh it's a long thread involving lots of others asking similar things.....but I do have a problem with people converting them fully and then claiming the vat back as a commercial. If that's not you then you don't need to be throwing your toys out do you ?
Why do I have a problem ...because I pay my taxes that's why 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Hi all,
I used to work in special vehicles and presonally carried out many commercial conversions so I will help with any questions you may have.
As for those people who have managed to get their windows connected, there is a bead of mastic along the top and side edges of the glass that keep it from moving.
Although this technically renders it unsuitable for use as a commercial vehicle in the eyes of the tax man.
As for the addition of seats, for the time, effort and cost involved it really isn't worth it. Land Rover have had to go to great lengths to please the tax man at their end of the chain or they would have been responsible for paying the extra tax on the vehicles if they were too easy to convert back to a regular vehicle.

Found this thread while I was looking at getting my windows working on 2015 commercial. Just needed to buy some chips off eBay, removed the door card, untapped the wire, plugged into the chip, removed gunk from motor, plugged chip into motor and giggled the window a bit. Took about 20 minutes each side.

This has me curious. My D4 Commercial MY13 has both rear windows working and the covers removed (of course). You cannot safely get out of angled junctions with those covers in place - like I am sure most van drivers already know.
I paid no money at all to activate the rear windows - would you believe it was a full-blown LR dealer - and he said all the factory do is flood a loom end (plug assembly) with silicon so they just fit a new plug for pennies. The motors and mechanism are there and its go. Not sure now
He never mentioned a silicon bead that may bind the glass but that cannot be hard to clean up.
Just a thought. "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

Know what you mean about the window covers! I think they changed how they disabled the windows when they did the face lift in 2014. mine had the plug taped to the loom and motor full of sealant (just pulled it out with some long nose pliers) , the plug wouldn’t fit the loom without the chips/plugs I got off eBay. Cleared the sealant off the frames with wd40 and elbow grease.
