Discovery 4 3.0 No Oil Pressure???

Hi everyone,
Bit of a strange one here. We have a 2011 Discovery 4 with the lovely (not) 3.0 V6 Diesel.

Long story short the crank broke in February and left the bottom end in pieces and we were told that that it was beyond repair.

We knew were there was another engine and were told that it ran. So we bought it and stripped the two rockers off to check it out and discovered 1 broken timing chain on the right and one about to break on the left.

We went happy with this and spoke to where we got the engine, but they offered to stand two chains and tensioners.

Our mechanic confirmed that the valves were ok on the right, and we went ahead and fitted the new chains and tensioners.

After reading on here about what else we should check, we pulled off the sump to check the bottom end. After speaking to some people we then got the bottom end rebuilt with new bearing on the crank and all rods. New seals and a new oil pump were also fitted.

Everything was then built up with new timing belt, tensioners, idlers, fuel pump belt, water pump, etc...

Once fitted, the engine ran perfectly on all 6 cylinders with no logged fault codes. But after about 30 seconds the oil light came on. Stopped and restarted. Same thing?

We lifted the manual pressure gauge, screwed it on, and we have no oil pressure. I mean 0. We disconnected the injectors to leave the engine just turning over. And we have a flow of oil at both the oil pressure switch channel and the filter housing, but yet with no pressure behind it, or on the gauge.

Alot of money has been spent, including getting turbos and injectors checked and sorted.

Any suggestions at all of what we could check/change would be greatly appreciated.
This doesn't seem to be a problem recorded anywhere that I can see.

Thanks.

See i hadn't mentioned above, but we had this problem just after the new chains were fitted. Everything was in a running right before the bottom end was sorted.

We had thought that maybe the chain guides were wore due to the low oil pressure, and then the whole thing was took out again. That's when I read about replacing the the oil pump and bearings

It was after this that we had the bottom end checked and replaced including the oil pump.

The person that done it has done them in the past and has had no issues like this.

It really has us all baffled

What make of oil pump did you fit?
Also check the oil filter is in the correct position ie nipple at the 7 o'clock position.

don't think the 3.0 have nipples ?

Were the tensioners fitted the right way round. There is an oil hole that needs aligning.

Oil pump was a FAI Pump,
The man has used them before and had no problems.

Yesterday when we had finished building it up to the point of turning over, we noticed that fresh oil reached the filter housing alto quicker than the first time.
After the chains it took a bit of grinding over to get oil up to the filter, but yesterday I would say 20 seconds and we had a good flow of oil.

We thought we were sorted but nope.

Does anyone now of any other presure relife valves around the engine. Its as if the oil is loosing its pressure somewhere around the oil circuit.

Didn't spot it was a 3.0, no nipples so Laughing

Could be something has gone wrong with the oil pump pick up tube?
Pressure relief is in the pump.

Pete, is that the timing belt or the head chains?

We removed the pick up before we sent it away to get rebuilt and it was like new.
Found the debris from the knackered tensioners in the sump.

the head chain tensioners. You have probably done it correctly.
