Welcome.
Not much to worry about with the V8.
If the chains rattle you’re in for an expensive job but the self-tensioned chain seems to be very trouble free for most of us.
PCV valve can gunk up, the engine will be really weird then. Looks like a saucer, easy to change, cheap.
T-piece can fail since it’s made of plastic and then you’ve got coolant everywhere and engine potentially overheating. Doesn’t cost many bucks to keep a spare around. Thermostat (or it’s housing) can break but if the thermostat fails you won’t be stranded.
Throttle body and MAF sensor can gunk up, I haven’t personally seen it happen for either but they’re relatively easy to clean.
Other than that I think the engine is quite trouble free. Change oil every 10k km (half of LR recommended interval).

Had an interesting drive home last night, coming off the m1 and the steering suddenly felt a bit all over the place.
Limped home and parked up.
Today the engine started seemed to make a whooshing sound Which I don’t remember hearing before.
I’ve also found that when I start it and idle the car battery voltage isn’t increasing from 12.1. When I went for a run it was all over the place from 12.6 to 14.7.
I’m thinking alternator maybe a fault but the shooting sound was strange. Almost like air escaping front left of the engine. After idling for a while it went.MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

from my research before buying one earlier in the year the engines are pretty damned strong.
Like every landrover product they do seem to have challenges if overheated and the temp guage does nothing to help you tell if its overheating as its not actually a temperature guage. The thermostat housings seem to become brittle over time which then leads to the thermostat staying shut. it seems to be generally recommended to replace thermostat sensor and housing in one but you can just replace the thermostat.
If you're searching for problems/ things to check don't forget to search for "LR3" when using google as its basically an American market car. there's lots over there doing 200K+ mileages
generally its so much better engine wise than her V6 diesel sport05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet

Just been made redundant, but got decent compensation. So decided to treat meself and get the new Defender - the first LR I've hankered after for 5+ years.
Then drove 400 miles in my 2005 D3V8, HSE which I've owned since 2007.
What was I thinking??
It's been uber reliable, a brilliant family car, including 2-3 annual Alpine ski trips, Scottish Highlands, and off-roading in Spain.
No change for a while yet..

Got to love them, just keep adding fuel and off they go. MOT today, 186k just advised to keep an eye on inner sills. Going to have a little look and work out best preventative options.

One of the rare V8s in Finland
Hey all, have had my V8 for 5yrs now, and it's one of the rare ones in Finland. Quarter million kilometres done, and engine doing well. Car is just this week out of a full automatic transmission and torque converter rebuild, and all run super smooth. I decided to keep it as long as it remains legal to drive big petrol engines.
Happy owner!

Welcome
Last time, a few years ago, that I looked there were only 39 D3 V8 vehicles registered.

Our donor!
Finally just getting around to it...... engine swap on our latest V8 will keep you informed. Think we know where to start to allow our mechanic in. In no way can we achieve this swap. Maybe we are mad but we think we can swap without the body off🤔 by dismantling the front ends, like so. Amazing how big this unit is!
Other than don’t do it any wise thoughts / advise please?
