I believe FFRR have a 4.4L AJ8 engine from 05 - 09 Before that it was the M62 4.4L . I still wonder whether the M62 will fit L319 (D3) anyone know?
The FFRR did get the AJ8 engine for a short period. Cant tell you about M62 fitment into L319. I know when I was looking for my D3V8 I went to look at a few FFRR with the supercharged engine and nearly bought a bright orange 1st series. What stopped me was the lack of room in the FFRR and the seductive sound of that supercharger

Wikipedia for the engines states that M62 02-05, AJ41 06-09.

My l322 has the m62tu lump on it, was gonna go look at a d3v8 local to me but it's to much money for the age and no service history. It's got lpg but no valve saver which I think is a must have on the jag 4.4 petrol engine

I don’t claim to know much about LPG but I’m not 100% sure whether VSR occurs or not without valve saver fluid being applied. Mogwyth looked into this and there were discussions on other forums and at best they were inconclusive. Some people without had engines go boom and some people with had the exact same thing happen.
There was also a mention (rumor) that on 2005 D3s JLR has used another alloy and on later model years they used something cheaper. I did not find a TSB or more conclusive proof of that claim.

My '05 D3 4.4 V8 has had LPG since new (fitted by 1st owner), but does not have any valve saver fitted. Aside from requiring some valve adjustment @ 11yr old there was no evidence of any VSR. Heads were off in 2016 to check for it and only needed valves lapped-in and clearances adjusted before refitting. My experience would seem to confirm that VSR is not a problem in this engine with LPG.

That's good to know about the car, I'm more inclined to think the problems are due to poor lpg installation and setting up running to lean etc.
The car local to me is still far to much money for its age and condition someone on the fullfat forum is selling at 2010 5.0 supercharged for not much more in showroom condition.
More likely to buy that to be honest.

Hi all
I am digging into the whole 4.4 FFRR a little more.
Now 4.4 was BMW engine until 2006 when they did a 4.2SC and 4.4 both by JLR not BMW.
What engine is in the D3 V8? Is it the JLR engine?
Anyone know what the 4.4 BMW engine is like? MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

It's the Jag engine in the D3, it's very nice and seems to be considered very reliable.
The Bimmer engine is pretty decent but not quite as robust I'm led to believe. But it is also more tolerant of lpg systems from what I've read.

I don't think they all die at 180,000.
If they do I'm in trouble as I'm on 170 ... But no engine issues thus far. I've just changed all the tensioners and I'll be checking valve clearances next for good measure.

When you say they all die at 180,000 which engine are you talking about? If looked after the V8 jag engine can be good for 300k+, plenty of high mileage LR3s trundling around the US where that engine is more prevalent. The M62 V8 from the FFRR can do intergalactic too it seems. The diesel D3 is more known for lunching itself but mileage at which that happens can vary a lot and there are also examples still going strong at well past 180,000

LR3 V8s are very common in the US (I'm here and I was spoiled for choice when I looked for mine). Most are high mileage cars and many well over 180K. Although I'm only on 100K I would dispute (and have never heard) the 'death at 180K' thing before.
