Looking at possibly joining you guys soon with a V8

What are the things to be wary of for petrol specific? Obviously diesel is cambelts, oil pump etc.

Thanks

Thirst Laughing expect 15 mpg driven locally and about 28 - 30 on a run.
Clean the throttle body as it's not on a service schedule and ditto the Mac sensor.
Good luck with the search, looks like 2 members on here are selling so you may get one fairly quickly if you are in a position to get one soon

New rear GKN propshaft fitted today (PITA when lying on the ground under the car Censored ). Changed the fuel strap last week and noticed the centre bearing on the prop was hanging by a thread. Replaced the whole prop which was lucky as the rear UJ was also found to be notchy once removed

Wow, I thought it was smooth previously but now it's in a different league. For what its worth MPG on the lie o meter now back in the 20s.

Hi all

So in a position to really start looking now.

What are the things to check with the petrol engine? Obviously on a diesel it’s cambelts and oil pump.

Thanks

Daft Q time!

I've been fancying a V8 of sorts for a while now, but can't understand why the Full Fat RR's are so much cheaper than the Disco V8's?

There are plenty of 02 - 05 Faties not too far from me at anything from <£3k to £5k, but the cheapest Disco V8's seem to be around the £7k+

I can't seem to justify getting the same vehicle (I have a 05D3) but it costing me potential an extra £5k, rather than get something very different for a little more on top of mine

So why are Disco 3 V8's so expensive compared to Full Fats? Is it reliability, is the costlier running costs of the FF's?

Hi Iggy,
You've read my thoughts!!
I been after a V8 D3 for a few months but starting looking at FFRR in the same age range and wondering the exact same thing as you!!
I'd be interested to see if there is a reason??

^^ I’ve been looking at the reasons too, seems illogical however perhaps an answer lies in the layout of the FFRR they do not have 7 seats and practicality of D3, the D3 just has more space so maybe that is a factor. Having the 3.6 TDV8 as well I can very much appreciate the transplant to a D3 by Disco Mikey I suspect that is a revelation having said that I also really like the petrol V8 in the D3 it is so quiet.

A factor that I have begun to appreciate recently is that here in UK D3 V8 is a rarer beast so parts are that much more expensive. Complete Engines appear to have a £1000 premium on a 2.7L That is plain market economics so I think better for me to source parts in Dubai and US with attached risk and where there are plenty of LR3’s available rather than have the comfort blanket of uk suppliers. It is something of a man maths answer!

Not Land Rovers..... Laughing we appear to be collectors!
Our mechanic suggests the valve body on the gear box may be reason for slightly jerky response. We are looking to auto gear box specialist for a diagnostic

If we’re talking 02-05 FFRR, note that the petrol V8 engine is NOT the same as on the D3. It is an BMW 4.4 liter V8 and the gearbox is a 5HP24 (I think). The early Td6 diesels have a GM gearbox which had a rather dodgy reputation.

Hard to say what makes the prices dip in U.K, maybe people don’t want not-so-well maintained old FFRRs Mr. Green

I believe FFRR have a 4.4L AJ8 engine from 05 - 09 Before that it was the M62 4.4L . I still wonder whether the M62 will fit L319 (D3) anyone know?
