Discovery 3 TDV6 Oil PUMP :) |
|
Ok..so i have a small question that is on my mind for a few weeks....
My Discovery 2.7 TDV6 from 2005 just turned 320.000Km, witch means new distribution kit, water pump, thermostat and all that.
With this millage would i need to install a NEW oil pump or not ? I have not yet ordered it as i do not know witch oil pump is already inside.
These oil pumps at what millage do they tend to break? I know the complete service history of the car from 90.000km as it was in the family, but don't know anything before it.
Thank you

better off replacing it. Spend money on the oil pump not the water pump

As we are now on the topic of water pumps.
Is the water pump run by the timing belt or the serpentine belt. I assume the later. Are there any particular issues to look for if you just want to replace the water pump/
Thanks

On topic I hope. How do you torque the (new) crank bolt to the required torque if you change the oil pump?I have one and the belts but have not taken the job on yet. My best torque wrench is a snap on 350NM and recently calibrated

You torque it 100 nm first, then you tighten it to 90 degrees more, just put a line through it and turn to 90 ".

Serp belt Garry, you need to remove the timing covers to get to it as its just above the oil pump.

Ok great - thanks - still on my original water pump so might need to program it in for replacement - upgraded oil pump went in 2 years ago.

No need to remove the timing cover to change the water pump, take the fan off and you can access the three bolts holding the water pump on.
