But isn’t there a “switch” on the headlamp unit to convert them to left hand drive for Europe?

Not in all D3 lights, certainly not on my S halogens or SE xenons. Adaptive xenons only ISTR. I’ve done many, many tens of thousands of miles sur l’continent and never been flashed once, including loads of time in hudrigirdie mode in (and to) Scandinavia.

I agree! and I attest that he does not either, I've done hundreds of miles throughout the GB and Ireland without modifying my headlights, they're just bixenon, and without putting stickers and I've never never received a flash for it!! lost in translation!
