I agree that the blue/whites will probably look too cold for the interior (they are the same as I have fitted for my number plate and side lights - brilliant for these). Quite like the idea of the alternative ultraviolet ones you suggested (cheaper option to) but wondering how bright they would be compared to the original ones fitted to the motor

Just the white ones - same as the number plates ect
Will be bright, but I think the ebony / black interior is quite gloomy at night anyway

Loading up the other night I quickly realised that the lighting in the back is pretty poor, its all down the middle, with very little spread to the outside. As a temporary solution I've stuck a couple of cheap stick-on LED "flat torches" at the back, pointing forwards and downwards. Not as good as I'd hoped as they are a spot rather than flood lamp, but they do light the dark corners as the rear end gets filled. What I really want is a couple of flush mounted floods on each side of the rear, switched independantly of the main interior lights. Hmmm search is on......

Sidelight LEDs have failed ! |
|
Well Guys,
The sidelight LEDs I fitted 6 months ago have failed !
The LEDs on both sides of the vehicle now light only on the front face of the bulb. All the LED parts on the side of the LED bulb have given up the ghost. I wonder if its the heat from the headlamps ? Anybody experianced the same ?
I too have found ultraled to be good and very prompt with my orders.
I did quite a bit of research into these and would recommend:
http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/u5015hpw501194t10-mini-light-tower-leds-p-1407.html
For the front side and number plate lights (x4 in total)
http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/u38048r-stop-tail-single-brighter-p-1197.html
For the rear stop & tail lights (x4 in total)
They all use the reflectors much better than the other led's and seem even brighter than the old bulbs. I'm not sure the 38035R's give enough light difference between the two elements of side and brake. The colour of the side/number lights is now much closer to the headlights and now have that lexus daylight look!
Don't think of changing the indicators unless you want to get into loading the flasher unit which can't cope with the low power draw of led's.
Yep - I see you quoted my original post... I did try to warn people early November.
I don't think it's a heat issue because the number plate LED's also failed, at about the same time as the side lights, and it's pretty cold back there!
I haven't found a suitable replacement yet that works for more than six months. The brake light LED's seem fine so I think it's more to do with the design of those flat mini towers.

about six months ago for use as front side lights and number plate.
I line with what others have experienced, my last one started flickering today. That's all four failing within six months. What usually happens is one side or face will fail first and then they start to flicker until all sides on each bulb have stopped.
It doesn't seem as though these are up to the job and I have no confidence in ordering any more (even if they are supposed to be guaranteed) 2005 D3 HSE

Same here - all 4 of my white tower leds have started to flash like strobe lighting, replaced side lights and number plates with original glow worm lamps today - will speak to ultraleds.
But like Crews Control, my rear red lamps are still working really well.

That would be the red rear LED clusters they now only sell as white LED clusters then..... Keeping track of their suppliers must be a nightmare! I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I have been following this post for a while now and was about to get some LEDs for the front side lights and back lights, but when I asked a supplier if they were CE marked and fully road legal, the reply was that NO LED bulbs are legal if they are used to replace a halogen specified bulb.
I hope all those that have fitted them have told their insurance companies of the modifications as they could use this to avoid a claim - especially if the third party mentions the lights caused a problem resulting in the crash.
I think I will wait until CE marked ones come on the market...

You'll have a long wait, and as someone with 14 years in the insurance industry an insurer would have their work cut out to negate a claim because your sidelights were LEDs and not incandescent lamps. Anyone finding themself in this position as a result of their insurer denying a claim is welcome to contact me and I'll personally prepare the case for the Ombudsman so the insurer gets their backside kicked and the claim gets paid. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
