Disco3 - after full rebuild and driving no start anymore

Hello Community,

This disco 3 2005 SE, TDv6 gave me the hardest time of my life yet, but still not giving up Wink
Crank broke, rebuild it with a new, poorly manufactured crank which eat up all the new bearings. Tranny started slipping and torque converter burned down. Once again full drive train out and fully rebuild tranny and engine.

Fired up like a charm, shifted like butter and driving haptics like new. 50 miles later I shut it down at a friends home and it got late. Tried to drive home but I deadstarted a new battery. It was like having no trigger wheel installed.
Next day I had a fully charged new battery but same thing happened. the towtruck fetching the car and bringing it home.

The error I could read was under the category transmission U0401-86. no communication

While starting the engine a couple of error messages pop up on the dash:
1. TRANSMISSION RANGE CHANGE not available
2. TRANSMISSION FAULT, LIMITED GEARS available
3. PARK BREAK FAULT, auto release not functional

a lot of communication errors as well between stereo, instrument cluster etc. can be read out afterwards.

NOW!!!
After the towtruck delivered little disco3@home it ran down the trailer and was so happy being home againthat it just fired up as it did before and continued where we left off... WTF

I'm pretty clueless, but I know that the reliability sunk to zero, before I can not pinpoint the problem and be sure this never happens again, I can not use this 2.7ton piece of metal anymore. The problem is I do not have any clue where to start since the car starts and no diagnostic messages appear anymore.

Anybody? Ideas, identical experiences... something?

It sounds to me like a canbus issue, look for the 60 ohm check over the OBD port

It could be an earth connection behind the battery.

60 Ohm check

Short story long Very Happy

It works flawless again. Why? I have no idea. I resoldered the Transfer Case Module behind the battery. I did the 60 Ohm check 61.4 Ohms...looks good. and I changed the break light switch... just for the cascaded errors lining up nicely to that.

Regarding the earth connection... I found an image where an earth cable was from the end of the transfer case to the chassis. I found both connectors and manufactured one... did not change a single thing at least not measurable.

Now I have my ususal suspects back, which I saw plenty around with people using GAP Tool, which resulted as I found out from people playing around with CCF. Setting it to settings which are not suitable or usable in the SE since there are no steering wheel buttons. I think it was expert/settings which resulted in miles instead of km etc. This can not be reverted. If somebody knows something about it please ping me.

Errors listed here and I think some can be discarded for now (maybe)... until i find a solution

Audio System
B1D23-13 Remote control switch - general electrical failure - circuit open (also displays miles instead of km in the display now) and misses obviously the up/dn/le/ri switches on the steering wheel. I did not find a way to undo what gap did with me.
Instrument cluster
B1A00-46 - Control module -system internal failure - calibration/parameter memory failure (2B)

HERE is what bothers me the most: !!!

Transfer Case
U0128-87 - Lost communication with paring control module -bus signal/message failure - missing a message (28)

I do not believe that this error is normal under any circumstances...and was maybe trigger for the nonstart issue

All the best
Markus
