It's got a few extra holes at the front to let water in so hopefully it's got some at the back to let it out

Those extra holes I think are for extra sump cooling as well.

The winch version leaves a 'slot' in about the same position when fitted with the winch, flush fitting without it though

I wouldn't like to say. It is always better to have the most cooling for the oil, so the sump is an obviuos choice. But the D3 sump is a bit deep and thin, so not sure.

On the other hand, the plastic covers it anyway, so no probs. Very Happy

Yes, know that, but before it was disgarded and the sump plate fitted, the plastic covered a lot so air flow restricted anyway.
