Disco 4 wheel nut sizes? WTF?!
Hi all,
Unless I'm being a complete moron, I think there's something...'wrong' with my wheel nuts on my Disco 4.
A number of times I've taken the wheels off etc, but not once have any of the wheel nuts played fair.
The included LR wheel nut remover fits on some, but on others almost has to be hammered on to make it fit, and on others when I try my own (good quality) socket set, one socket always seems a bit too small, and one size up from that, seems to slip and round the edges.
And no, they haven't got caps on.
What is the genuine LR size of wheel nut for a Disco 4?
Any ideas? Anyone else have this issue at all? Has the previous owner just bought sh*ite quality wheel nuts, if there is such a thing?
Any help would be great.
Cheers.

Yeh will have to do mine this weekend I think!
Any ideas what causes the swelling? Combo of weight of vehicle and heat etc?

What to?
Can I ask if there’s a better version than a standard set? The steel will surely swell again inside the stainless cover?
Thanks

I think two different metals combine and have a reaction causing it

There's a cover on the top the nut and you get water+dirt (and salt in those countries that use it on winter) in between causing corrosion and even rust. Having two different metal types may add to the problem as mentioned above.

Also worth remembering the LR supplied locking nuts are terrible - if you have them fitted take them off whilst you can get them off or suffer when you really need to take them off in anger!Must stop buying shiny toys....

Think the biggest culprit for swollen wheel nuts is garages over tightening them with the air gun and a badly fitting socket. This causes the outer jacket to start to ride around the core nut underneath which then blows out the jacket on the flats.

Many people don’t understand why the wheel nut casing becomes larger So perhaps I might explain.
Soft metals will spread when hammered.
If mechanics/tyre fitters just used a socket and lever instead of power drivers the nut casings would last significantly longer.
It’s the hammering effect that causes the metal casings to stretch.

"Just" take the covers off them. It took me hours to get them off, some took seconds the others.....
I actually like the look of plain steel with a hole but most won't I guess.Series 1 V8
