How much is a litre of petrol/diesel in South Africa at the moment?
Petrol is +- 93p/litre - Diesel varies as the price is unregulated (last bought diesel when I had a D3 TDV6 )
At €1.70 , I would rather drive a Prius and drown my sorrows in a good whisky (whiskey)
To put it in context, the same commute in my D3 (TDV6) was around 28.5MPG. If you drive the V8 with a heavy foot it does drop from the 22MPG to about 19.8MPG on my particular commute.

Ah well. Just an idea.
I got the Audi S4 out this weekend, 6 months since I drive it. Utterly fabulous. Go to wondering what a cross of that engine (or something like it) with a Discovery would be like... ____

Hi there,
I own a LR4 V8 here in Germany. It's imported from the US.
But since 2010 it is possible for german dealers to order the V8 from LR with all german/european market options. But there is no V8 on the website - you have to ASK your dealer.
Probably it's the same in the UK?
Greetings

Luckily I'm getting good fuel economy results from my current D4 (2.7 TDV6 with 6sp manual gearbox), usually averaging around the 40mpg mark, but fuel prices are still horrendous here and in the UK, IMHO.
It will hopefully only be a matter of time before the people force the Governments to think again about fuel duties. There are ways of doing this.....! 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Yes, but probably it's the same way to get a V8 in the UK: Asking the dealer... Discovery 4/LR4 HSE 5.0 V8 MY2010 // Volvo XC60 II T8 Inscription Fusion Red MY2020 // Hyundai Kona Electric Trend MY2020 // Bürstner TravelVan 620G MY2020

When I ordered my 2012 D4 HSE SDV6 I asked about the V8. Was told that LR do take orders for RHD V8 petrol but DEMAND a deposit of £5K which is non-refundable if you change your mind. And that is on top of any dealer deposit! Cost is also more than UK diesel spec equivalent (think the salesman quoted £57K September last year). Interesting to view LR US website and cost of a highly spec'd D4 in the US. For example, LR4 HSE Premium Luxury = $58,995. At today's exchange rate that's £36,500. Selling up tomorrow and off to California - for good!

That's one of the problems with LR as a manufacturer - in order to be able to sell to the American market they have to bump up the prices elsewhere....
In theory, the Discovery 4 should be retailing in the UK for no more than £40k tops (HSE) and for no less than £30k (Commercial)..... 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Careful driving, selecting the correct gear, the roads here always seem to generate better mpg anyway, especially the newer ones. The readout on my dashboard often gives total journey economy of below 8.1 l/100km.....

To add to inflated prices "elsewhere", we are also stuffed with extortionate taxes which don't finish even after you have paid for you new car.

on the MPG side i have the v8 d3 and rrs. on a run they use 12-14l/100km loaded and at 140ave km/hr
round town you are talking 16mpg (16l/100) if you are lucky and realistic numbers in traffic more like 14mpg
But i have LPG now and enjoy filling up so much more
i did buy a xc90 d5 recently for airport runs and that is averaging 33 mpg!
