Didn't realise fitting the electrics/getting the reversing sensor sorted on the D4 was going to be such a pain and relative expense to get it done by a dealer.

Big Cry

Wish I had read this thread 2 minutes before I did as just ordered a second hand detachable tow bar from fleabay (was plannng to do electrics myslef, understand they can be picked up for about £70 from a site sponsor).

Had been quoted about £450 from GT Towing (a local store) for brand new electrics, detachable tow bar including fitting and activation - which in hind sight looks a pretty good deal!

May have to stick the 2nd hand bar straight back on the bay when it arrives...

Hi All,

Electrics successfully installed.

All working. Took about 1.5 hours, mostly taken up by removal of bumper as there are some fiddly bits, a second person helps a lot!

As previously discussed rear parking sensors come on when reversing. But it's not too hard to switch them off on the dash.

I was quoted £50 to have the activation done by local stealer. So will probably have that set.

If anyone wants advise or observations on fitting the electrics I'm happy to help.

Had my just my electrics fitted by GT Towing in the end for £175 including, really helpful guys and good customer service, squeezed me in straight away for an early sat morning job - would recommend them.

Dealer reckons approx £150 for updating the software though (I hour labour) - to hook up a computer, press a buttton, go away and have a cup of tea and then unplug when done, you can see why they need to to charge that kind of rate.

After the originally quoted extortion, in the end my dealer did the tow activation for free whilst it was in the workshop for an ipod issue and a small assurance update so kudos in the end.

I now have a new, non fault indicating, flashing light on my dash - which has made me happy, yes simple things...
