How long, approximately, does it take to replace the passenger side Temperature Blend Motor on a Discovery 3. HSE
I have the tools and the official workshop manual.
Don't wish to get caught out with a change in the weather half way through the job.
At least it's easier than the old P38 which I replaced all of them twice !!Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Took me over two hours but don't take that as a real guide as I did not have a clue what I was at! Probably could be done in shorter time
Thanks for your response....appreciatedRelocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Fitted and calibrated Genuine new LR temperature blend motor.
Ran engine up to normal temperature. Heater still blowing hot drivers side, cool passenger side.
Removed new blend motor, heater flap is free (Not jammed) over the full range of travel.
With the blend motor just left hanging loose I operated the temperature flap manually the passenger side air was still cool from the ducts.
Increasing & Decreasing the LH temperature control on the HEVAC ran the blend motor actuator one direction then the other as it should.
Any ideas Guys....I'm thinking possible blocked heater matrix but strange that drivers side gets hotRelocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Hi
Just wondered can u gain access to the heater matrix to see if it gets hot across the whole surface , or if theres any success that they can be flushed in situ

I ended up having to replace the heater matrix in the end in my 05D3. Made a world of difference. Contrary to what dealers and others say, the dash did not have to be removed for the replacement. Was done by an independent specialist over here in Limerick with no fuss.
Glorious heat when I wanted it!!!

Funny enough useto see a lot issues with heater matrix in combi boilers
Looking at the D3 matrix I assume by having the connectors at one end the junk collects on the end, as in the passenger side, unless one of the tubes goes to the other end inside
Would be interesting to see one cut open after becoming blocked
Hope all goes well John

Did find this which may be of interest , pretty sure it’s the same matrix used in the D3
Can't possibly see how the matrix can be removed without at least loosening the drivers side console which entails removal of steering wheel, column switch assembly and instrument binnacle etc. plus moving the centre console towards rear of car for the following reason.
The matrix fouls on the drivers side console frame and cannot be removed from the heater unit fully until the console frame has been raised to clear. This entails removal of all screws holding the console to the main dash, one of which is located at the top directly behind the instrument cluster.
For information, the two heater coolant pipe "O" rings are EPDM or Nitrile 16.5 mm I/D X 2mm section.
These are easily available at around 90p each as opposed to LR at £4 ea plus VAT.
The screws in the pipe clamps on the matrix are Phillips and mine were extremely tight. I will be replacing them with Stainless Cap head socket screws M4 X 20mm long.Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Not a dash out job. My first one took around 4 hours.
Hardest part is catching all the coolant out the matrix and pipes My D3 Build Thread
Didn't remove the complete dash, just the passenger, centre, drivers side, and in order to check the integrity of the wiring connectors, the floor consoles after getting a load of water in there after a cloudburst (Sunroof open last year in France) which caused loads of faults and limp mode. Managed to clear all the faults at the time as luckily had the SDD with me.
Tell me how you managed to get the matrix out when it fouls the drivers side (RH) console by around an inch and how the blend motors on the LH side can be removed and refitted with the duct to the LH footwell section in the way and the screws holding the duct elbow being inaccessible because of the tunnel plastic trim which is part of the centre console ??Relocated to Mid France from N. Dash needs trimmed very slightly
I did tidy it up a little before covering it back up again
I did that "Modification" after the matrix fouled on the console frame. Removed the panel from the console only to find that the matrix fouled by about the same amount against the rib on the console frame, where the panel sits. See edited photo.
Rather than "Butcher" the frame, I decided to remove it-hence the additional stripdown on the drivers (RH) side

I think I just pulled it out enough to let the matrix clear. It was quite tight, but it definitely came out and went back in again without removing all that muchMy D3 Build Thread
