Disco 3 TDV6 2008, Drop in Power
Hello everyone,
Disco 3 TDV6 2008
After a few minutes of operation, normal road use, impressive drop in power ... stop the vehicle, re-start, and it starts again normally!
The problem comes back after a few moments!
The problem does not arise if you drive like a snail, not exceed 2000 rpm !!!
I scan for faults and ... nothing!
HELP!

The problem could be a result of many possibilities from EGR failure to fuel starvation, or boost pressure. Take out the MAP sensor and see if it's clean, if it's dirty spray it with carb or brake cleaner but do not poke anything into it.
What diagnostic tool are you using? If there's a fault there has to be be a fault code!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Hi PROFSR G,
I'm using IIDTool BT, usually working fine !
No fault, really...
MAP sensor clean as new, i will try intercooler pipes ?
EGR brand new, two of them !
Intermittent power drop for fuel starvation ??

OK well GAP will certainly show any faults if they were present. In the absence of diagnostic pointers have you checked the brake temperatures after a few miles rolling?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Hi,
You mean brake T° via IIDTool ?
I didn't even think we could do it ...

No, just check the brake discs for excess heat. If you have an infra red thermometer it may be helpful.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

and that could cause the power loss problem ?

It would slow you down, if the brakes are sticking enough, to make you think you are losing power.

Well then, not at all ! I can tell you for sure that the problem is with the engine !

Power loss is generally attributed to component failure or a malfunction in either the engine, fuel system, or transmission. If a fault occurs in any system it is logged, and you are able to read it via diagnostics. Detected faults must be logged and there is no ambiguity here, even if the fault is rectified later the log will still show what faults occurred and when. (faults are monitored over a number of ign cycles before they are confirmed!)
In your case you say there are no faults, therefore you need to look elsewhere to explain the power loss. In the absence of any fault codes binding brakes are going to be a suspect.
Beyond that, is the fuel OK or might it be contaminated in some way? Is your GAP IID working/connecting properly and can you access "live values" etc?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Yes, GAP IID tool is working and connecting properly and i can access "live values",
I have another Discovery 4 from 2012 and the tool is working fine !
The loss of power is really sudden and disappears as soon as I switch off the ignition and restart the engine !
But if I keep the revs below 2000 RPM this does not happen, which is why I am not thinking of a problem with the fuel or the brakes ...

Well it sounds like a boost pressure issue which is why I suggested the MAP sensor earlier. It could also be an EGR issue, split hose, etc, etc, but without dtc's is a guessing game.
There are a lot of possibilities but I'm reluctant to suggest them because it could send you on a wild goose chase. (and it's not even Christmas yet!)
Is there any black smoke from the exhaust when you floor it?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
