I guess the first question is what would you be buying to replace it and how much would they discount the car for no trade in - cash is king at the moment, and if the dealer is supplying a new car on finance they are also making a good margin on that, when push comes to shove they will be making a profit on the car and on your trade in, you may make more by taking the trade in out of the equation and just looking at their car deal under the microscopeMust stop buying shiny toys....

Just had 1 of my sills replaced, Bought a complete ready to weld panel for under £150 and paid £300 to have it done. Not being funny, but I think it is worth doing.

If it’s an 04 plate it’s worth saving as it will be pre-production car with historic interest.
If it’s a 54 plate, I’d probably let it go.1974 S111 SWB 200di conversion, rag top, bronze green. Known as Munch
2004 pre-production D3 V8 HSE Tonga green, gone but buy back option!
2001 D2 4.0 V8 ES premium Epsom green - gone, but only round the corner!
1961 S11 SWB marine blue rag top - gone but not forgotten
2000 D2 4.0 V8 ES premium black - gone but not forgotten
1988 RR classic 3.5 V8 green - gone and nearly forgotten
1976 S111 LWB 2.25 diesel truck cab various shades of bronze green - gone and most definitely forgotten

Sills look ok to me! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I am not so certain cash is king at the moment, in fact I do not think cash has been king in used car sales dealerships for a long time now, they want your trade in so they get a double bite at the cherry, especially as the used car market is a bit starved of cars.

If you are going to buy used, then the money you might save on the welding job will end up being spent on the newer car when it goes wrong!

thanks for the replys, the cars had most problems sorted out, new arms, eas pump, alternator replaced, new battery fitted last year, its got new tyres which have done less than 1k so most of the expensive consumable parts have been replaced. its a 54 plate lower tax model and was remapped when we got it, im looking at a jag xf 3.0 premium luxury model as our next car.
so im wondering if its worth more in a private sale with the sill issue, someone would get a car that's been looked after with no expense spared

Sorry, but it only has limited historic interest to a LR fan but you've nothing to lose by advertising it on the forum.
My view is that its a 16 yearly car that's very complex and expensive to fix. Take the money and run. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

It always used to be the case that cars with a separate chassis were not MOT failures due to rusty sills. Does anybody know why this has changed?
