Put the resistor where you think best.
Inside is out the weather.
But if you are soldering the wires under the bonnet, you may as well fit it there.

Merry Christmas.
I fitted my resistor by the switch.
If you remove the driver air vent you have loads of room to fit the switch and resistor all I did was make 2 wires with connectors on and solder the resistor in the middle the shrink wrap it.
If you want to try it just unplug the temp sender an pop the resistor in the plug turn the car on but don't start it and watch the temp gauge go up mine goes to just above the cold bit.
I have tried mine to -4 and it starts.
I would love for someone in a cold place to try it at a lower temp.

Is maybe not be professional, but its seam worth while switch addition to have.
Glowplugs can be replaced in the summer, should you wish. (£700 ish)
What we really need is an ECU map update to do this!

Hi, I have the same problem and want to try this, but not sure how to connect it to the existing wires. Do you just cut them and use connectors? Is it also worth replacing the sensor?...sorry bit of a novice as you can tell!

No don’t bother replacing sensor.
1. you could cut with a knife a bit if insulation off carefully, wrap the new wire round it and then solder the joint.
Or
2. If possible unplug the sensor, stuff the bare wires into the terminals ( ensuring they dont short out ) and then carefully refit the connector to the sensor. That way no damage to the factory wiring, but need to be skilled at doing it

I carefully cut the casing off half way around each wire, then put the blade in the copper and made a gap so it was separated. Then thread the new wire in the gap. Then wrap it and twist so it’s stuck. Then bit of tape around then both. Then a bit of wire casing I had spare just to hide the mess. Then route the wire safely. Then tuck it under near the bonnet hinge driver side. Then through the door sill (looks scruffy but hey ho) then pull blower cover off, stuff it in. And just left the button hanging out.
At least to see it working before I bother to neatly route it when I can be bothered.
Car seems stiff when it starts with the resistor on. Still dodgy on first start. But it works!

Cold start using my button.
Hi
When I installed mine see pictures I just cut the wires some where under the plastic cover. Then I soldered my new wires to the existing wires you cold use a crimp or choc block ,but I'm not a fan of that.
You could cover in heat tape as well. Then I ran it up past the battery across under the wipers into the brake plastic box and into the cab through the convenient grommet.
Make sure you leave a bit of slack in the cable when you go from the engine to the body as the engine jiggles when it starts.

So far -3 is the lowest temp.

Thanks for your replies, just trying to find the right resistor (between 2-5k) and as always getting confused...do I need a 1/4 or a 0.5 or something bigger? Also, does anyone have a link where you don’t have to buy loads of um!
