You are better off in a higher gear, you should be able to overide the box and pull away in 3rd, definately if in low.

If your in GGS mode, then it will start in 3rd all by itself.
I’d leave the gears to sort themselves out. Build speed and momentum gradually and keep the accelerator as constant as possible, dont ‘blip’ the pedal! Be smooth.
If the laws of physics allow, it will keep going.

Really interesting you say this - I've had many Subarus over the years and always found them fine on wet grass. Never understood why so many people say wet grass is so hopeless! Now I have a D3 I'm worried it's going to just get stuck in the first field!
I have heard it suggested that one should use Grass/Gravel/Snow mode whenever the road surface is wet.

Reminds me of a time in my now dead D3 where I was crawling up a slight grassy bank, in off-road height, and the car announced it would lower. Basically the car thought it was doing over 40 mph from the wheel spin, even though I was crawling. Happy days playing.
And do not use a towbar to perform a snatch recovery as show in the video posted by D&G on page 1. D3's have a specific recovery point on the rear for that.

Booting it wil drag off the grass down to the soil which MIGHT then give you some traction but just as likely not.
Gentle rocking back and forth stopping each direction BEFORE losing traction. I was shown with someone pushing the car (not as heavy as a D3) back each time the driver stopped driving forward. The action flattened the ramp out a little bit that was holding the car in the dip under each wheel.
Then once it is moving don't let it wheelspin again but under no circumstances stop moving.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Reminds me of the Series LR's where you needed to be in 3rd or 4th in Low Range and Four Wheel Drive to get it moving in wet conditions, then move three levers at once to come up to High Range, 2nd and Four Wheel Drive, without losing the momentum that was going to allow it to keep going in the higher range. Always prepared, of course, to go through the whole shuffle process back down if it didn't actually pull away once you had got into High. Fun times! Previously:
