even better considering you're more likely to hit something smaller

I thought it strange why you were so disgusted ...you would think they could make the colour scheme a little more contrasting though eh 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Whilst on the subject of Safety & airbags just how many of us use the PDA/TomTom windscreen type of sucker mount and place it by the A pillar airbag. (would not want to be in the way of the PDA projectile in the event of an airbag deployment) Just my opinion

dickgriff wrote:Well really we need Oliver77 to explain perhaps...it's what he does for a living...but I would think that despite airbag deployment there must still be some contact with the steering wheel albeit involving much less force perhaps ??
The dummy on the passenger side is positioned further away from the airbag and therefore the collision with it is with less force. Although an airbag deflates upon passenger impact, it still registers a force with the dummy. Bear in mind that a dummy just sits there but a real person actually braces themselves.
I also agree with your point on frontal deformation. I was pleased to see it deform in the way it did showing that LR had worked on the chassis to incorporate weakness points.
Due to the sheer mass and rigidity of D3, it would be realistic to expect that hitting a small car would cause little or no injury to D3 occupants as so much of the initial kinetic energy would have been absorbed by the small car.

D3 vs smart car ? well my guess is the smart car will be on its roof or worse rolling around the road, well before the disco gets it's teeth fully into the vehicle. I base my conclusions on seeing what happens with a Ford Ka, when hit ( seen 2) they tend to roll & spin when being hit by a heavier vehicle at suprising low impacts. 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'.
