I have a discovery three and coming up to the winter I seem to have starting issues I have watched this onto YouTube and it seems to work every I have bought heater plugs But every garage is saying it’s a pig of a job . So this got me thinking If pouring in boiling water on the sensor Works Could this be Sensor up problems Rather than heater Plugs ??

Im sure there was a post last year and the guy simulated this very fix by putting a resistor or something via a switch into the temp sensor wiring, loads of poo ppoing from the estabilished members, which all went very quiet when it was shown to work, like your video

I used a hairdryer to heat that sensor up and started straight away. I was wondering about changing it for a new one to see would it help.

I replaced that senor on Moneypit last winter in the hope it was a cheap fix to my cold start problems. It made no difference to cold starts for me.
I've just had 5 of the 6 plugs replaced, thankfully with no drama & now she starts on the button every time.
Robbies guide is a fantastic insight into the world of glow plugs & enabled me to confirm they were brown bread & the root cause of my problems with some additional help from members here.
Well worth a read

There's no need to replace the sensor as it's working perfectly. The theory is that by pouring hot water/heating with hairdryer the sensor doesn't think the engine is cold and therefore uses a different injector sequence/cycle and that gets the engine going.
Like Skagg, I've just had the glow plugs replaced (they only got 4 out on mine and they all broke and had to be drilled out ) so I'm waiting for some cold weather to see if the substantial outlay has been worthwhile.
If you haven't read Robbie's guide, do so. Modern glow plugs and common rail diesels are so much different to their older cousins.
