Dimmer has random tendencies

I've searched the Forum as best I can but didn't find an explanation.

My panel lights come on OK with the light switch, I keep them well turned low with the dimmer however, after a few miles/time the panel suddenly goes to full bright. The dimmer then has no effect.

Sometimes it sorts itself although mostly it waits until next start up.

Any ideas?

Sometimes this can be resolved by exercising the dimmer wheel back and forth, otherwise it is a new switch assembly.

Thanks Robbie,

Indeed I was thinking dimmer switch but I do twiddle it for ages but no joy.

Maybe a wee squirt of contact cleaner would help?

Is it easy to remove Thumbs Up

Is it to do with ambient light? a bit like an iphone screen? I have noticed mine change when driving from bright sun into a shaded area etc. Or maybe mine is broken too and I have convinced myself it is a "feature"

It is easy to remove but I have not disassembled one. The interaction with the ambient light sensor is another variable. The output of these can be checked with a suitable diagnostic tool.

Yes, the light sensor may have its finger in that pie.

I'll take the easy route - do nothing. Whistle

My other car is a Volvo. In that one when daylight mode is active the dimmer is on full light without adjustment possibility. When it switches to night mode the dimmer works. All according to spec.

Could it be the same deal here? I haven't checked the manual so just throwing it in...
