I was informed by LR Bedfordview that my Diffs had a low speed whine in November 2009 at its last service, and that they would be ordering diffs.
Went in today for 80k service and diff replacements. (After my Tire Shredding Lesotho Katse Week-end).
Should have the Disco back tomorrow.Disco4 SDV6 HSE 2013, Faultmate MVS2.
My diffs suffer the coating problem. All leak, oil had the consistency of hot chocolate, smelt like rotten eggs.
The coating fell and mixed with the fluid, seals rotted and began to leak.

LR Spain don't do any campaign on this and will only honour replacement on warrantied vehicles.
Sooo I went to my local guru and took the crappy thing apart. Rollers are not in good shape, but gears are like new.
The problem lies with bearings. Some of them are available, some others not
-Diff pinion : bearings/trackNP159221/NP254157 (only one, the other one is different size)
(This bearing fits the Ford Mustang GT500 Shelby )
-Crown: Surprise: right bearing is different from the left one. <so rusty that can't read the part no..
one of them is NP939823, which in theory is the same as JLM506849 (Jaguar)
but... that NP939823 is equivalent to TZZ500020 (Allmakes ) supplied as a crownwheel bearing for the FFRR L322 2003 on
-Annother one difficult to read due to rust, I don't know whether is X or Y
X32010XM (not sure)
Y32010XM , goes with NP205471.
Called ashcroft but nobody seems to deal with D3s diffs apart from the stealerships.

I thought Caterpillar only distributed them, and I guess they will have an exclusivity clause, so won't be able to sell the unit to other stockists rather than LR.
So it's highly unlikely they would ever sell the unit or even its components to any "outsider"
Besides, LR were doing a "service exchange" renewing (don't know who does it) worn out parts.
I'll give it a try.

Who is the place in Pretoria that supplied the diff's? Centurion Gearbox and Diff maybe?
How loud is the whine that you hear inside the vehicle? I just want to check mine today?

Yes,Centurion Gearbox and Diff is the LR approved repairshop.They replaced my rear diff under MP.Friendly people!!
I did hear a very low whine whenever I took my foot off my gas pedal.
Frans, thank your for confirming the gearbox rebuilders name. I have found them by googling and will be contacting them in order to get the missing bearings needed to finish the job
Apparently there are 2 bearings whinch can't be found and in theory don't appear in any bearing cataloge, as
-TIMKEN NP159221 (int bearing)
-TIMKEN NP254157 (track)
-TIMKEN NP 939823 (cup)
(the inner bearing is in the pinion and I can't take it out without destroying it, so can't read its part no, but should go matched with NP939823)
