Diff lock question

Hi, when I select mud/grass/snow terrain mode on my 2005 D3 SE the on screen 4X4 graphic shows a padlock symbol on the centre & rear diff, I looked at my rear diff when I changed the oil and it looked like a normal unit, does it mean I have a locking rear diff if the padlock symbol is shown ?

Thanks

Mat

There should be a wiring harness going to it and an actuator sitting on top which is shown in the attached picture.

Ah OK thanks for the quick replies Smile

I think the two padlock symbols appear green on the display, I just assumed that as there were no padlock symbols at all in normal mode it meant diff's locked.... but red makes sense now I think about it.

I'm sure my rear diff doesn't have that box/assembly on the side of it, so it must be a standard unit, which is good as I replaced the oil with 75W/90 which is the stuff for the non-locking diff.

Thanks

My D3 has the Electronic Rear difflock installed.... 100% sure Wink

when I select mud/grass/snow terrain mode on my 2006 D3 HSE (autobox) the on screen 4X4 graphic shows a padlock symbol on the centre & rear diff in green......

In low gear /rock mode, it locks the centre diff, turning red then... but the rear diff stays green... i presume that one goes in lock automatically when needed?
 Best regards
Harold

@ Sidestick

I do not know why you think you are right, because i think you ain’t...

As said, i have the E-diff lock fitted... and if the D3 thinks it is not needed, the diff-locks are green...

Proving what is on my D3:

And here you can see the diff motor...

I just did the self test, to be sure, and it is working fine, if i can believe IID Wink
