Diff and gearbox breathers

Does anyone have advice on diff and gearbox breathers for the disco 4?
Is there any way you should extend them up higher via a hose to prevent water ingress?
If you don't is there any guidelines to preventing water getting eg driving a particular gear rather than leaving in auto etc.
I haven't seen anyone posting this question so thought I'd ask.

Hi Blade74,
Do you know where the current breathers run? If not, check it out before worrying about extenders.

Best Wishes,

Sorry to sound sarcastic bushwanderer but thats why I'm asking Rolling with laughter

I know in other 4wd's eg Prados, Patrols, Pajeros etc etc they have diff breathers that allow the air to escape from the diffs via a one way valve to prevent water getting in. But as you use these 4wds and the dirt gets in these valves fail.
Next thing that happens is water gets in with the oil and then a little later down the track the diff fails.... Big Cry
Alot of people who own these 4wds and want to do alot of water crossing sometimes raise them up into the airbox area of the car to prevent this.

I am looking to do a fair few water/river crossings and would rather take preventative maintenance than $$$$ maintenance

Unless Landrover does something different to everyone else I thought i would ask the question. Thumbs Up

they already have breathers - i cant remember exactly where they go but they go into the engine bay and the interior of the vehicle.

if you get into water that goes above the breathers you will have much more serious problems to worry about.

you can easily wade in 1000mm of water without a problem with the breathers..

Sorry that subtlety doesn't work for you. I was telling you to get off your Censored and investigate it yourself

Rolling with laughter Haha nice one bushwanderer.
It was nearly 10.00 at night and i wasn't going to get under it and try and look at the top of the diffs. Very hard to see above them even when i have had it on a hoist once.... Big Cry

I did that to try and see my Ediff and that was hard to see...

Is it the same for the transmission??

So i just have to get a safari snorkel then and bobs your uncle. I might wait till they bring out the specific 3.0l one that is being worked on at the moment.

The front diff breather is at the top of the engine bay, the rear is behind the rear panel above the brake light. I am not sure where the transmission one is but would like to know as I want to check it was connected when my transmission was replaced.

The sore point was dealing with Allianz call centre. Twisted Evil Eventually got sorted.
