Why didn't the alarm work??? |
|
Morning all. Long time since I've been on here and sad that it is bad news that has brought me back.
Last night someone inserted a very large/heavy terracotta flower pot through my passenger side front window! This has made a hell of a mess, the usual glass everywhere and also a few really nasty scratches on the paintwork of the door.
The mystery is though, why didn't the alarm go off??? It was deffinately set as it very helpfully went off this morning whilst I was on the phone to the police. (And TFC has tweaked the alarm so its REALLY LOUD!) I also cant believe I didn't wake up, Disco is parked right under my open bedroom window and has security film fitted so they must have made quite a noise doing it.
Whoever it was also came up side drive, noisy squeeky gate, opened garage (also noisy) had a look at Lady Maud (untouched).
All they took was my relatively empty handbag that was in the floor well passenger side, however left behind, mobile, wallet and digital camara. (I know, stupid girl, won't do it again.) I don't think that this was done to steal anything... no other vehicles have been touched in the village. Police aren't terribly bothered have got all relevant no's etc, might send someone out to see me in the next couple of days.
So... why didn't alarm go off then? If at first you don't succeed.... destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place!!

Silly question but if you were sound asleep, how do you know it didn't activate??
Maybe it did go off so they grabbed the bag and fled? 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I would have deffinately have heard the alarm if had gone off, it would have woken the whole village up. I'm convinced I heard a car speed off up the village about 3 ish, but didn't take any notice.
Have just spoken to next door. They heard the alarm when I set it off this morning. Woke them both up. If at first you don't succeed.... destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place!!

When you lock the car, do you press the button once to lock it and then again to double check that you locked it? If so, then you will de-activate the internal alarm sensore if you press the lock button within 3 seconds of first locking it.
Possibility? Bodsys Brake Bible

No, I hadn't done that (Use that all the time when dog is in the car). Alarm was def. on as it went off this morning as I was on phone to police and put arm in through window, woke next door.
Weird. If at first you don't succeed.... destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place!!

The alarm is rubbish. My window was done in a last year and the alarm was so weak, I hardly heard it. The answer may be to do as Slimer says below:

iconix wrote:My main worry is that no alarms went off in all this, except for a 'whimper' from mine as my neighbour put it. Unplug the alarm sounder so the horn goes off instead, then you'll hear it

I think the first post states that TFC has already modded the alarm to be LOUD I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Are you trying to say that they are perhaps the wrong type of flowers for the Disco 3 alarm system???
Terracotta pot around 2ft high, 8inches across, I had to get a mate to lift it out of the car! So yes, quite heavy! I dont know what sort of flowers exactly??? Does it really matter? If at first you don't succeed.... destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place!!
