Detachable Towbar; Socket, not ball, what is this for?

This may be of interest to someone and I'm just curious to know what it's for. Looks like it has a socket which you can lock something in to.

It is the North American hitch receiver. It takes a square bar with things on the end like towball, winch, bike carrier, etc. Have a look in my Gallery. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

looks like a hitch reciever as used in the US, can also be used to attach a winch, tow eye etc

The Aussie genuine LR version is the same as this but with a greater extension to lower the towball height further.

It quite seriously reduces the exit angle when 4WDing. I noticed this when crossing rocky ground at speed before going up a sand dune. Heard a big thud.

Leave it off now. Because it stows in two pieces it cannot be stored in the stock LH side location. Being a seven seater there is limited choice for the other part. I have it under the rear seats currently.

Note the nomral US style one is part number KNB500023
Not sure what that is - is it a "copy" - there's an awful lot of "new" towbars on ebay (also "nicked" ....ie old with "new" keys...)
