I Have a Thule 9503 from my days of Volvo driving.
How easily and cheaply can I buy a detachable tow ball and get the electrics fitted?
Alternatively, is there a decent 3-bike rack I can put on a D4 which doesn't require a towball or lighting electrics?

I suspect that the electrics are already there if you remove the plastic plate. When I was looking for a detachable tow ball, there were plenty around, advertised on here or ebay for around £100 give or take. I think the price has crept up somewhat, but if you bide your time you might get one for around that. One thing NOT to do is call in at a dealers for one. You'll be re-mortgaging the house.
