had a test drive today to make sure my new D4, to be picked up sometime between now and Friday 8 March, would fit on my driveway. bit late in the day for a test drive i guess but fortuitously there was not much difference in length to my 12 yr old Ford Galaxy that I am going to either px or sell. Made a choice today from the available registration numbers. Can't wait.....
D4 XS Orkney/ebony, privacy glass and....carpets!

All you folks picking up shiny new cars at the moment - can I ask when you ordered, whether the delivery was as originally stated (some people have said they arrived early - here's hoping...) and also when you had your delivery date confirmed?
Ta!

Thank you Gov, but only as long as you don't think you're slumming it too much in the D3 section of the forum!!

Bear in mind Martin expects drivers of D4 HSE Luxs to buy the key rings forged from solid lunar basalt, in keeping with their financial flushness.

As a matter of interest, is the build date the date they started the process, or when they finished? Mine has a 21 Jan Build Date, but was put on the ship on 29 Jan (and still sailing, only landing 10 March).
Does it take only 8 days to build a D4?

"build date" will be when it's all bunged together, before that it's just a pile of parts. S'pose some will be over 2 days if it's on the line and that goes over midnight so build date might be when it's finished and the software gets zapped in and the cry goes out "IT LIIIIIIIIIVES". ISTR they are only a few hours from start to finish in the T5 line, an impressive site, especially the new L405s.

mine was pretty much on time, perhaps a week earlier but the sales guy told me that business has been booming [but they all say that!] and that D4 delivery times are getting longer. I think I might have been fortunate that mine was already in the pipe so to speak when i placed my order

It takes 14hrs to build a D4, from sheets of alloy and a chassis, plus powertrain arriving at the factory gates, to rolling off the end of the line.
Thats what the guide told me on the last tour.
The 'just in time' logistics are all handled by DHL, right from point of part manufacture, to delivery to the correct station on the production line, in an incredibly complicated but efficient manner, 'just in time' to be fitted to the correct car.
