Delay to pull away

Hi all,

Had my manifold sorted a couple of weeks back.

I'd put the sluggish pick up down that fault, but it's still there.

A search on here suggests Map sensor, split intercooler pipes, egr valve sticking, turbo actuator sticking or faulty brake pedal switch.

Starting with the intercooler pipes, before I start mooching, will it be obvious to an untrained eye and where should I be looking exactly? Do I need someone to rev the engine or any other advice would be great thanks.

Found a thread on sticking actuator so can follow that to check that bit.

Any links to egr valve removal/cleaning on a D4 2012MY is it a bit job?

Found a link for MAP and I'll be fine with brake switch. These will be replacement so I'll save them until later if the before doesn't sort it.

Trying to save cash as it cost me £2900 for the manifold and timing belts so need to recover from selling my kidney. Laughing

It sounds rather expensive; was this a JLR dealer or an indy?

Did it include anything else, like maybe an oil pump?

Having seen the thread on this forum about the MAP sensor, I checked mine about a year ago. It was reasonably dirty but not the worst looking on the thread. The hole was partly covered by muck.

I gave it a wipe with some workshop towel, didn't stick anything in the hole and didn't spray it with anything - just wiped it all clean.

It made such a difference to the driving performance. I had always experienced (as long as I can remember since driving the car) hesitation and frustratingly laggy and slow pick up, especially from a slow or standing start. This has fixed the issue completely - the car now takes off in a nice smooth and predictable fashion.

Takes 5 minutes to do - and is free. Maybe worth looking at.

Same here - I spent 9 quid on some MAF cleaner, cleaned the two turbo's MAFs and the MAP sensors. Best use of an hour on a Sunday ever.

Like you say, suddenly felt like a different car. Well worth doing, and seeing if it makes any difference.

Hi, An indy and I had the belts done at the same time and also rear brake pipes due to corrosion.

I'll try giving the MAP a clean then. It's intermittent. Sometimes I don't notice any lag and other times its more noticeable. Cheers for the advice. Thumbs Up

I had same problem - always felt like I was using too much throttle to start moving, and then had to back off before engine 'caught up' - also occasional initial stutters - flat feeling.
After reading this thread and another on the site I thought I would try cleaning the MAP sensor - took it out and used MAF Cleaning spray, plus rubbed some hard carbon deposits with a small piece of soft wood soaked in cleaner, sprayed the whole sensor until fluid was showing no black deposits.
I left it overnight Friday night to totally dry and refitted yesterday...
WOW - Different car, acceleration is instant, doesn't stutter, and i'm probably imagining it but gear selection seems better as well ???
Wish I had done it months ago

If you have a gap iid tool, I reset the throttle adaptation settings after cleaning the sensors. No idea if it made a difference but in my mind, the stored settings were probably inaccurate.
