Dehumidifier that stops when freezing?

I have successfully used this small dehumidifier in the caravan during the winter
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Breeze-trade-P...umidifiers
However, I have to remember to turn it off when it gets cold esle it freezes up. I forgot and the motor has just failed.

Does anyone know if there is a dehumidifier that is small and cheap and stops when too cold to operate?

Or, can you get power sockets that turn off at about 5 degrees centigrade?

Many thanks

Is the van constantly plug in, if so leave the heating on low to stop it freezing also helps to maintain the interior of the van Thumbs Up

Russell, yes it is and had thought about that option but decided the humidifier was better option. But now you have me thinking - use the heater on say 6 degree setting so enough to stop condensation and keep dehumidifier working. Sounds like a plan.

You need a desiccant type dehumidifier. Google it and you'll find explanations on the difference. Thumbs Up

We have one of these on our boat, been working for 2 years now with zero issues, when its cold the machine auto switches of until it warms back up again.
Did loads of research before buying it, general opinion was a proper dehumidifier ie a gas unit has a very high failure rate especially in the marine world, the desiccant one was highly recommended.
Meaco DD8L junior now comes with 3 year warranty, its been dropped a few feet a few times as the wake from other boats has disturbed it from its perch, now secured and still fine.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will try the cheapskate approach first - albeit we will end up putting some heat into the caravan but as I dont have to make a separate payment for the electricity, I can convince myself its free Laughing

If you didn't block up all of the caravan vents all the dehumidifier was doing was drying the outside air
