My day at LRE Chiltern!
Well me & the wife did our level 1 yesterday at Chilton LRE good day out, but would not have wanted to pay the £500 for it!
We where in a HSE auto with diff lock, which had the brake & hand brake worming lights on all day, was told this was because they had changed the pads them selves but could not reset the putter! Also the instructor was not waiting for the bong B4 starting!
Conditions where great as it had rained & continued on the day, sliding all over the place! One hill they call K9 which they have mad with soil dug up while they are digging a lake was full of clay, was just too much for the D3!
First attempt with instructor driving in drive mud & ruts HDC on, all started well half way down back end locked & swung out! Ended up broad side at the bottom still on the slope looking out of the window & the ground looked about a foot from the window!
Managed to dive out & gave the Defender a go managed with a bit more style!
So second go this in 3 gear not drive, well came down at such a rate all wheels locked up & 3 tons just slid at a alarming rate down the 50 foot hill, stopped only by a bank of earth at the bottom!
Our instructor & the driver at the time said he thought we where going to end up in the water the other side of the bank! Needless to say he did not let any of us attempt it!
This is Mark one of the guys getting stuck in some really sticky mud!
Bottomed out, Defender had real trouble getting to us to recover!
Mark stuck again!
Defender trying to snatch us out!
No photos but when I was driving got a call & had to return the favour & pull the Defender out of the same hole!
More photos on my gallery if interested, sorry for the quality but forgot my camera & had to us my phone!

Why go down in 3rd?? How do you lock the wheelsup if your not touching the pedals? Presumably the car was going too fast because it was in 3rd not 1st? Sounded like it wasn't the best of days, but looks like you had some great mud DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

As I say it was the instituter driving not me, I do not think he touched the brake, but the hill descent kicked in & locked up all wheels so just slid down!D5 HSE Waitona Grey 2015

Nick, HDC wouldn't work properly if the system detects brake faults

They did work as you would expect most of the time, but you would not have been able to walk down this slope!
If all wheels are locked how dose the car know it is moving?D5 HSE Waitona Grey 2015

Nick, if it's in gear and the engine's running, it's impossible for all the wheels to lockat the same time, the HDC system detects differences in wheel speed and pulses individual brakes to slow down the ones that are faster, thereby regaining control of speed

Congratulations Nick,
Those pictures just whet the appetitie! You certainly planned it well with pre-dampening downpours. Was the huge sum a full day costs or the half day costs?

Level 1 is a full day, but well worth the extra. If you want the car to yourself it is more expensive.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
