I'm thinking a dab radio is needed in my disco 3 HSE, any suggestions. Original in place 6 disc C.D. Front loader.

Thumbs Up

I certainly wouldn't waste my money on DAB.

Sorry I cant recommend a particular unit but IMO DAB is superb

Channel choice? - wins hands down - especially sports channels (5 live extra for football & cricket)
Clarity and quality? - wins hands down - I travel length and breadth of UK - occasional signal loss (worst bit in Borders when I drive up to Edinburgh - just flick to FM - but that is pretty crappy)
Channel Information? - wins hands down - additional artist info etc

I only ordered one additional extra when I bought a new Polo for the missus a couple of years ago - DAB radio - she is the most 'non-car' person in the world but insisted on one after spending time in my D4

Would never buy a car without one and some BBC analouge AM stations are being switched off in the future ISTR (but I could be wrong)

I Bought a D3 with tinted windows (which had been fitted by the garage). The radio reception was tish. Always station seeking, fading away then coming back strong. Understood the antennae is built into the rear side windows. Checked around and found the aerial connection at the top of the side window at rear (driver side) had become detached. Looks like a connector on top of a PP3 battery. Pushed back on connector and now.......perfect reception. Very Happy Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio Wales, Heart ...........

The connector is not the best and I suspect it can detach easily especially when driving off road.

I benefited from following the above advice.

I suspect fitting an alternative, roof-top, aerial would improve things further but my FM reception is, generally, perfect, so not worth the effort.

I tried DAB with a Pure Highway 300Di adaptor but it was Censored . I suspect the Pure Highway 300Di was fine, it's DAB which is unreliable - at least in my area.

I also believe the actual DAB radio makes a difference - I bought a Sony (not cheap) home DAB as a Christmas present - what a load of crap, took it back and swapped it for a Roberts - absolutely fantastic, took me longer to get it out of the box then get it perfectly tuned and set up - so if you are retro-fitting in your D3, I'd deff. try before you buy - good luck Thumbs Up

I had DAB in my previous car and it was great. For 4 years I have never listen to FM in it. Planet Rock was always on Twisted Evil
Now I miss it. What would I need to do to attempt fitting DAB radio in Disco?
Which components need to be replaced like - different LR radio unit, arial????
If it is not too much I will try doing it.

Dadon - I'm a closet Absolute 80's and Planet Rock listener as well - another reason to have DAB Very Happy

Sorry that I cant be more helpfull on the technical side, but if it doesnt cost mega ££'s - I'd do it

I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along shortly

I found that DAB is so hit and miss especially in rural areas. Now, have a new caravan with a JVC unit, that's just as bad and the small SMB connector is next to useless.

I replaced my low end unit by a dab+ unit. I believe it is not possible for a high end unit because of the additional functionality of the high end unit. You need a dab+ aerial and a conversion set between the car connections and the unit. I mounted a sharkfin aerial with is suitable for FM and dab. I never had my radio on. The receival was very poor. Now its superb. At least here in Holland.

Forgot to mention that the pioneer also has a proper (parrot) handsfree function. I didn't succeed yet to retrofit the telephone switches to the steering wheel. So the handsfree function can be used thru the touchscreen of the pioneer.
