D4 zf8HP70 fluid change
I have just been on the phone to the garage I have used for along time for various cars over the last 20 years,he’s just had the ZF technical guys round his garage and they came up with a couple of interesting points
A) The lifeguard fluid has a “conductivity “ rating and if this is not used there can and will be damage to the mechatronic system within a few hundred miles, there are many fluids out there with the correct spec but it’s the conductivity that’s the issue and that’s not part of the spec apparently,he said the first thing they do on warranty claims is analysis on the fluid
B) A flush is not recommended as there is a thermostat in the box which makes flushing very difficult as the new fluid goes in cold it closes the stat ( using the dialysis machine) so they recommend a filter change and if you drop the valve body you can access the torque converter and drain it that way
Can anybody advise as to the validity of these statements,I have no reason to doubt them but I am deeply suspicious of any large company giving advice as it generally suits them financially
P.S. they also stated the reason they sell the fluid in small 1 litre bottles is because it contains silicone and has to shaken before use and this can’t be done easily in 20 litre drums

Mostly true.
I didn’t think the TC was accessable with valves removed. Maybe a change on the 8
Lol at the 1 litre bottles.

I had mine flushed 10k miles ago and it made little difference. I did it as a maintenance routine rather than because I had a problem. Oil came out black! and it was not ZF fluid that went in. Done by dialysis.
If what he’s saying is true, mine should have self destructed by now?
Mine is well out of warranty so not interested in that aspect. It’s all about cost.

You bypass the thermovalve by hooking up the megaflush pipes direct to the 'box.
Not sure about conductivity rating. Never heard of such a thing for ATF, but do know about it for oil cooled electric generators and arc welders.
I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable on here will be along to correct me
We buy ZF8 in 10 litre containers......
