D4 TV tuner into a D3
Got hold of a new D4 hybrid TV tuner and thought i would give it a go and see if its compatable with the D3 one ..and what if any are the differences
Location of old tuner ( bluetooth and TMC are there aswell )
Wiring and plugs for original tv
New tv unit connected to my old wires
Big difference in size
The wires are all the same ( i checked the multi plug first ..only uses 4 out of the 20 pin plug ...power , ground and 2 for the coax connection to the screen )
There is an additional plug ( green ) but unsure what its for ...and is not on the wiring diagram .
So differences ...only EPG (electronic programming guide ) that i can find . Finds the same amount of channels as the old one .
There is a different bracket listed to hold it to the rear of the D4 ..so it would need that aswell ...as it dosent fit in the D3 one .
Is it worth the swap ? ..depends on how desperate you are for EPG ...but at least it proves it works ..G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

hey Wiggs,
is all the cabling there for an addition of the TV tuner on a normal HSE ?
and if so is it just a case of plugging the the beast in and away you go ?
cheers
MartStill miss my D3

Dunno , you would have to remove the panel then see if the correct wiring is there . There is also 4 antenna amps needed and enabling the thing on the screen . Mine already had TV so i just swapped wires over to try it .G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Sounds as though the EPG is just software thing...would be interesting to find out if there's a sub menu (hidden?) for updating the software as can be done with set top box's ?21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

No idea Glen
It has got different countries and various regional settings , but never noticed mpeg 4 .
Perhaps it would be better to contact your local dealer and see if they spec one for NorwayG4 Gone ...but not forgotten
