D4 Start stop

Hi there, is there any way the start stop/eco button can be set so the start stop is permanently disabled?

Is it something you can do on the gap?

Let the start/stop battery be sufficiently low voltage Whistle

I suppose if you left the start stop fuse out it would put lights on the dash like a Christmas tree??

Yes easy, swap your main battery for mine Laughing
If SS stops working without the warning light the cranking battery is not fully charged.
If the SS stops working with the warning light on the auxiliary SS battery is not fully charged.
You could maybe fit a smaller output cranking battery.
Why anyone would not want it to work I don’t know! Thumbs Up

Probably the easiest way is to get into the habit of switching it off at each start-up.

The disable start stop button is probably the most frequently used button in the Ice maiden.

As soon as she starts in the morning it's pressed to ensure we get no unwanted S/S when she's not up to temp. Then if I'm in crawling traffic it's disabled again.

It does change your driving style (for the better) reading the traffic ahead to ensure you don't initiate the S/S in traffic when it's enabled.

I find the frequency it kicks in frustrating, in the D4 as you will know it kicks in when the vehicle stops in D. In my lads Guilietta which is manual, it only kicks in when the car is stationary, in neutral & the clutch engaged, which seems a much better way on doing things.

But I'm still coming to terms with not having seat memory on the key like the D3 did, so I'll never be content Smile

SS is automatically disabled until the engine is up to working temperature. Why disable it in crawling traffic?- that’s when it’s needed most, if you are concerned about engine temperature you have a FBH to take care of that.
Far better than on any manual that I have driven, some I have found to be a real pain, being at a standstill with SS activated you can start off just as fast as if the engine is left running.

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I just can’t see the point of the engine to stop while you’re stationary in traffic, to me it’s more wear on the engine and starter motor.

I always forget to hit the eco button, so the first time I stop the engine cuts out🤦‍♂️ and it annoys me😬, that’s why I wanted to disable it.

It's just a device to save the Earth and placate the government so that the road tax is less. Not necessarily in that order. Any benefit or inconvenience it causes is purely of secondary importance. Hence the reason I suspect why you can't disable it.

I think from memory that if you short out the bonnet catch this disables the S/S, it does on my micra, I hate this design, as posted above it puts a lot of strain on the starter system.

friend of mine used to work at fords research centre on the commercial side (diesel) once told me that the main reason ford designed stop start was to reduce the wear and tear on the trans/clutch system as when the modern diesels idle for a while they vibrate quite a lot (especially bad for a duel mass fwheel)
the emissions thing came about more later and was incorporated into the s/s system

only ever had it on one audi (latest a6 allroad) i owned and that was easily disabled via a button on the dash pressed after startup and yes it used to annoy me if you forgot to disable more so because it used to make me jump when you stopped at lights and shut down as i always thought it had cut out on me making me panic and try to restart if Laughing Thumbs Up
 please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick,thankyou

There was a someone on here who had that they had fitted an Eco/Stop-Start auto off in their signature block.

Think it was a DIY solution based on PIC or Atmel that simulated pressing the button x seconds after engine had started.

My recollection was that I'd seen it in this thread but I've just looked and can't see it Big Cry

Just fitted a new cranking battery and SS is back Neutral . SWMBO insists that our LR dealer turned it off for her and it stayed off for 5 years.
Somebody will be along in a mo to confirm it can be turned off.

Usually hit the button, but recently hadn't, was approaching a T junction on an up incline, truck was turning into the B road I was on, slowly held back, briefly came to a halt, engine stopped just as I let my foot off the brake, car rolled back a little bit before the engine started, glad nobody was behind me.

Regardless of make, if you look at a used car advert, most have a pretty worn button.
