D4 not starting when cold after timing belt done by Pentland

Hi,
Just had timing belt done by Pentlandite Landrover in Dundee and car now takes over twenty attempts to start when cold. Car never had problem in four years since I had and started first time .. spoke to workshop controller and as per usually we have done nothing as only removed timing cover. I have ask if they done fuel pump belt and not got a definitive answer as electrics at back. Got told to take car to closer garage to get battery checked and no problems there. Usually fob of by service department as emailed and rung and the service advisor is off or on phone. The garage have done something but don’t want anything to do now there’s a problem and excuse like booking next year.
What’s best course of action as colder weather and motor not starting correctly? Do you contact landrover directly to complain about dealer and if so who? Local indie says since they did it they should really sort it.
If anyone else use Pentland Landrover in Dundee with fixed price servicing, DONT!!!!!!!!
Any advice on what I can check myself would be grately appreciated.
Many thanks
John

Hi do you have any fault codes you can share. Sounds like heater plugs not working. Does the car drive ok on the road?. Getting to prove the garage is at fault can be difficult. They could have disturbed a connection unrelated to what they were doing. I would still take it back though.

Check the two plugs under the plastic cover on top of each manifold, to make sure they are connected. These are removed to do the rear belt.

Flack Thumbs Up

Not got any codes as no reader. Dealership now saying they never changed fuel pump belt or alternator as timing only changed. Apparently on disco 4 you only get timing belt or a timing kit which has three belts. The technician that did your change has done and hundreds with no problem. Had cover off and connectors on top all connected. The garage reply is there may be by coincidence a underlying problem which has confidence only occurred once they had a tinker about. Seems strange that it takes two days to do a timing belt only? It is also very strange why you would only change one belt on a seven year old car when any respecting garage who knows Landrovers know all three belts need done. I have asked for phone records but they cannot give me. Think cover up and if I didn’t need to I would give them a wide berth.

2 days to do the front belt alone? Confused

It's less than a days work to do all 3 belts...

I think fault codes are the way forward here. They will at least tell you where to look. As Flack has pointed out plugs need to be disconnected to get to the FIP drive belt at the rear. It could be the job was not done because of its difficulty. Bad show to only say they changed the timing belt and not the other belts.

Take it to Disco-Mikey let him sort it, then claim whatever Mickey charges back through small claims court plus all other expenses involved including your time. I assume there is a small claims court system in Scotland.
If you continue using the starter as you describe you will very soon need a new one, keep your battery well charged in the meantime.

Interesting , I'm guessing fixed price didn't incl everything ! Pentland in Edinburgh did my belts but just checked my invoice and I got charged for all belts, itemised on my bill. It wasn't cheap but not hugely more than the local indie .

Well that ended well, took car to another dealer and fixed problem in half hour. Turns out that the glow plug module was not connected. Interesting that Dundee landrover denied touching anything electrical during timing belt change. Well done Aberdeen Landrover for fixing motor

What's most odd, is that doesn't need disturbed to do either the front belt, or the rear belt Confused

Presumably, its started fine every other winter?
