Hi,
Just started using a MexxRaxx bike rack with an LR multiheight towbar. All seems to be a great bit of kit but maybe the bike rack upright sits a bit close to the rear bumper, about 6mm. Worried if I load up the rack,it would flex enought to damage the bumper.
Has anyone else worried about this? To maximise clearance I currently have the tow ball, then the spacer then the bike rack mounting bracket against the towbar flange. Do I need another spacer to take the upright away from the bumper or am I worrying needlessly
Cheers Dex

On mine you dont even need the spacer, I feel that the bracket being flush up to the towbar plate (later type with 6 holes in it) is also stronger, it is a solid rack and does not flex, trial it loaded then try and use the securing straps from the boot lid tight as you can, you should find that it won't foul. Trying it unloaded won't be realistic as there is not the additional weight of the bikes.
You are not worrying needlessly where damage is concerned but can assure you on my D3 and D4 with my setup no probs. Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:
"Duratrac"
