@Hardware - true master indeed - you have cleared up one thing for me haha I always wondered why when you first turned the lights on the early D4 Xenons they were super bright then dimmed! You learn something new everyday!

Thanks for all the replies. 
I replaced the bulbs with OSRAM XENARC COOL BLUE INTENSE D3S HID and OSRAM COOL BLUE INTENSE H7 whilst i had the units to hand. Then a simple swap of the front units. When i turned on the lights they flashed and went off.
Used the IID tool and enabled 'xenon lights' in the CCF. Job done! Worked a treat.
