D4 Halogen Headlights Again!
First can I just say that I hope the half wit at Land Rover who came up with the D4 headlights was sacked and blacklisted from ever working again in the automotive industry! - there I feel better now
After investigating ways of upgrading the shockingly bad halogen headlights on my 2014 D4 I eventually settled on an aftermarket HID kit.
I'am very pleased with the output of the new bulbs but have a few issues to sort out.
1) I don't have washers so will need to look into fitting them before the next test.
2) The halogen drl look a bit rubbish next to the new headlights and could do with upgrading but I think it will be more involved than just swapping to an LED lamp as the drl operator on dim and full brightness modes probably by voltage variance - which wouldn't work with leds.
3) When the headlights are first switched on they take a couple of seconds to warm up so during the day if you use the head light flasher you don't get a proper flash, I don't know if this is a problem with factory units or if they have some thing built into then to allow a full flash.
I'd appreciate any ideas or thoughts on these ?

Instead of fitting washers just for the test you could go back to original bulbs the day before the MOT then change again day after. Seems a lot easier than plumbing in washers.

Well as of about 20 minutes ago the nights are drawing in.
Got 10 days of 24/24 daylight ahead of me from next week, personally can't wait!

If you have the halogen versions prepare to be disappointed, very disappointed. They are questionably fit for purpose and remind me of the lights on my 1972 Morris Marina which were also s#ite!

Not sure the xenons are much better, certainly on high beam the extra light is great for illuminating the sky.

Oh it's not just me then, after upgrading to the LR Bi Zenon the main beam does seem to illuminate the tree tops to each side with a black hole down the middle, supposedly to be filled with a pair of spotlamps?

Yep, great for seeing the birds in the trees above you. I just live with it and haven't bothered with extra lamps, I did upgrade the H7 bulbs in the high beam bit, helps illuminate the birds better.
Another example of style over substance and going backwards cf my 06 S.

I've just changed from pre 2014 to post 2014 Xenons and I couldn't believe the drop in light output considering they're supposed to be the same bulb
Luckily I'm used to driving a Defender in the dark, so even driving with just the side lights on in a D4 gives more light output that full beam on a Defender dose 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320
